Marketplace apps with live bidding everyone can trust.

We build buy-and-sell marketplace apps for iOS and Android, including live auctions where every bidder sees the same price at the same moment. Listings and search, chat between buyers and sellers, payments, ratings and seller verification all run on a backend built for many people at once. Smart Marketplace, a buy, sell and bid app we built for a client, works this way.

Who our marketplace and auction apps are for

Founders launching a marketplace

Start with listings, search, payments and chat, prove that people trade on it, then add auctions, groups and recommendations.

Businesses taking their sales online

Dealers, auction houses and classifieds businesses that want buyers bidding and buying from their phones.

Teams whose marketplace is struggling

Bids that arrive late, prices that differ between phones, or search that slows down as listings grow. We find the cause and fix it.

What you get

Results you can feel, not just deliverables

01

Bids everyone can trust

The server decides every bid in a single step, and new bids reach every open screen the moment they're placed.

02

Search that stays fast

Listings that differ by category, filters and nearby results, structured so searches stay quick as the catalogue grows.

03

Trust built in

Seller verification, ratings, listing review and an established payment gateway, so card details never touch your servers.

04

Ready for real traffic

Real-time connections, caching and images served through a CDN, on cloud hosting that grows with you.

Included in our marketplace and auction apps

Why auctions change the engineering

Because in an auction everyone has to see the same price at the same moment, and exactly one person can win.

A marketplace with bidding looks like a classifieds app with one extra button, but that button changes most of the work. In an ordinary marketplace, a screen that is a second out of date goes unnoticed. In an auction, everyone has to see the same price at the same moment, and exactly one person can win. We design the bidding around that from the first day, with the server deciding every bid, one clock for everyone and updates pushed to every open screen.

What we’ve built

Smart Marketplace is a buy, sell and bid app we built for a client in Flutter, with a Node.js backend. It covers vehicles, properties, electronics, fashion, services and crafts, with real-time auctions and bid notifications, instant messaging between buyers and sellers, search with many filters, listings near you first, secure payments, and seller verification and reputation. It runs on AWS, with Redis caching and images served through a CDN.

Our guide to building a real-time bidding marketplace app explains the decisions behind it in detail.

The marketplace around the bidding

Most of a marketplace app isn’t the auction. It’s the listings, which need different details for a car, a flat or a jacket, the search and filters that help people find them, the photos sellers upload from their phones, and the chat where buyers ask questions before they bid. Each of these has to stay fast as the number of listings and users grows.

Payments and trust

Strangers only trade when they trust the platform. We plan the payment flow with an established gateway, then the less visible parts: matching every payment to its order, refunds, disputes and whether the platform holds the buyer’s money until the item arrives. Seller verification, ratings and a review step for new listings keep the marketplace safe. Rules on auctions and on holding other people’s money differ between countries, so we recommend taking advice for the markets you plan to launch in.

A sensible first release

A first version doesn’t need every feature. Listings, search, one type of auction, payments, chat and notifications are enough to prove that people trade on it. Groups, recommendations and more auction formats can follow once real buyers are bidding.

Process

How we build marketplace and auction apps.

  1. Discover

We write the marketplace and auction rules down first: bid steps, the last seconds, reserves, buy-now, and what happens when a winner doesn’t pay.

  2. Design

Listing, bidding and chat screens in a clickable prototype, so you can try the whole buy-and-sell journey before it is built.

  3. Build

The app, the real-time backend and payments, tested with many simulated bidders on slow connections. You install test builds on your own phone.

  4. Launch & grow

App Store and Google Play submission, then new categories, auction formats and features based on how people trade.

FAQ

Marketplace & Auction App Development: questions, answered.

Straight answers to what people usually ask before we start working together.

Still curious? Ask us anything
How do you keep a live auction fair?

The current highest bid lives in one place, the server. Each bid is checked and accepted or rejected in a single step, so two people who tap at the same moment can't both be told they're winning. Countdowns come from the server's clock rather than each phone's, and when a connection drops, the app asks for the auction's current state instead of guessing what it missed.

Can the app handle many people bidding at once?

Yes, when it's built for it from the start. Bids and messages travel over real-time connections, busy data is cached, and before launch we test the bidding with many simulated bidders on slow and broken connections, because that's where auctions go wrong.

Should a marketplace app be built in Flutter or FlutterFlow?

Usually plain Flutter. A bidding screen is full of things that change on their own, like the price, the countdown, chat and payments in progress, and that's easier to control in code. Smart Marketplace is written in Flutter for that reason. FlutterFlow can suit a simpler marketplace without live bidding.

Which payment providers do you work with?

We integrate established payment gateways, so card details never sit on your servers. We've built apps with Stripe and RazorPay, and we choose the provider that fits your countries and how money moves on your marketplace.

How much does it cost to build a marketplace app?

It depends on the categories, whether you need live auctions, how payments flow between buyers and sellers, and the tools your team needs to run it. After a free discovery call we send a written proposal with a clear scope and price. A focused first version keeps it affordable.

Who owns the code?

You do. Once the project is complete and all payments are settled, full ownership of the code is transferred to you.
